The Mets ended the regular season on a high, taking game one of a double header in Atlanta to clinch the Postseason. They flew to Milwaukie quickly after to take on 3rd seeded and division winners, the Brewers in a best of 3 wild card series. The Brew Crew dominated the NL Central all year long and were the first team to clinch their own division but couldn't' lock up a bye over the Phillies and the Dodgers and so, they play the Mets in this Wild Card Series.
The Mets took game one after going down early, but came back to win 6-4. Going into game two, the Mets had a chance to continue their magical season by sweeping the Brewers on the road to move on to the division series. Leading, 3-2 going into the bottom of the 8th, the Mets turned to pitcher Phil Maton out of the pen who posted a 3.66 ERA this year in 64.0 IP, a solid set up arm for them in the second half when the 20 year old phenom Jackson Chourio led the inning off with his second game tying homerun of the game. Later in the inning, Garret Mitchell on his first swing of the game took a curveball to the deepest part of the park in right center with a 2-run shot to put the Brewers in front. The Brewers would hold on to win 5-3 and force a pivotal game three tonight.
The Brewers no doubt have the momentum coming into this one with what will be an electric crowd behind them. It's important, though, not to forget that the Mets have dominated most of the series and still have NL MVP candidate Francisco Lindor who has yet to wake up a the pate through these first two games, yet record a hit. In the pitching matchup, its the veteran southpaw Jose Quintana on the mound for the Mets and the and second half sensation Tobias Myers pitching for the Brewers who posted a 2.86 ERA in 12 starts after the break. The Mets have the experience with Quintana, Lindor, Jesse Winker, Jose Iglesias and JD Martinez, all seasoned veterans. The Brew Crew will come in with the momentum the crowd, and the odds, with the best bullpen in the NL with a 3.11 ERA this year, second in the majors only to the Guardians, and a good combination of speed and power in the lineup.
Expect to see a fun game three between two teams fighting for their seasons with a chance at the NLDS on the line. This will be the final game of the wild card round this year and the only game three and so the baseball world will be watching to see who moves on to Philadelphia on Saturday.
