The Mets are moving on to the division series behind Pete Alonso's go-ahead 3-run home run in 9th. In the pivotal game three, the Brewers and the Mets were locked in a pitchers duel up until the 7th inning with a 0-0 tie. In the bottom of the 7th, pinch hitter Jake Bauers sent a no doubt solo home run to put the Brewers in front, and right after, Sal Frelick did the same thing. The Brewers now led 2-0 and hope was all but lost for the Mets.
Coming into the 9th, the Mets had the top of the order up against one of the games best closers, Devin Williams. Lindor worked a leadoff walk and Nimmo laced a single to right center that put runners at the corners for Pete Alonso. The Polar Bear was in a home run drought since September 19th and looked lost at the plate through the series so far. None of this mattered, as he cranked the biggest home run of his life to put the Mets in front 3-2. With Starling Marte adding an RBI single, the Mets ended up winning 4-2 and are moving on to the division series to play their division rivals Philadelphia Philies.
For the Brewers, its heartbreak once again as they have remained one of the leagues most consistent teams and yet can't make it far in the postseason. The Mets on the other hand, continue a magical season as they started 26-33 through the month of May but ended up winning 89 games and are in the NLDS. Behind great coaching with first year head coach Carlos Mendoza, clutch hitting, Francisco Lindor who has made himself a strong MVP runner up, and just great vibes, this Mets team has conquered all odds and will be moving on to Philly on Saturday .
