The Israeli military, which has been engaged in regional wars against Hamas and other organizations, has kickstarted a new assault on Syrian targets.

On Wednesday night, Israel bombed Hama military airport and the T4 base in Homs, both of which are in Syria. According to a statement by Syria's foreign ministry, the bombing strategy nearly destroyed the military encampment.
However, although these strikes did occur in Syria, in reality their ultimate target was Turkiye. In justification of the bombings, the Israel foreign ministry cited concerns that the interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa was allowing Turkey to use its military facilities to house their own military equipment to possibly threaten Israel.
It is important to keep in mind that Israeli-Turkish relations have substantially deteriorated every since the war with Hamas in October 2023.
Turkiye responded to the reports by condemning the attack and labeling Israel as an active threat to regional stability and peace. Yet, the same nation is currently involved in a military occupation of the primarily Kurdish regions of northern Syria.
