Hungary leave the ICC, gains praise from Israel's Netanyahu

Hungary has officially announced its departure from the International Criminal Court. This came due to calls for Hungary to comply with ICC rules which would have arrested Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. For context, Benjamin Netanyahu has a warrant for his arrest due to what has been considered war crimes in the Gaza Strip. Before Netanyahu was to arrive in Budapest, Hungary cut off ties to the ICC, in a move which has sparked criticism. The Dutch Foreign Minister claimed that Hungary would still be obliged to follow ICC laws until the process of withdrawal. Hungary's actions have not been universally criticized however. Israel has praised their actions, with them calling the ICC "corrupt" and "biased". Israel continued, stating that Hungary has been a close Israeli ally in not just the EU, but also the ICC. Whether this will set a precedent of avoidance of ICC laws remains to be seen.
